The construction industry often gets bad publicity regarding its impact on the environment and climate change. Wishing to do something positive to redress this balance, Nathan Ferris, of specialist construction recruiters Darcy Associates, has teamed up with Offset Earth.
By signing up with Offset Earth, an individual or business can fund tree planting and carbon offsetting projects.
Nathan explains “We wanted to support a project where our carbon footprint as a company can be offset. Through Offset Earth we have been supporting the planting of trees and the restoration of mangroves in Madagascar. It’s easy to see the impact that our donations make, and we know that we are playing our part to preserve our planet. I also love that Offset Earth are based in Bristol, like we are.”
In 2019 a joint letter from 11,000 scientists declaring a climate emergency, they have singled out restoring mangroves as a major natural climate solution. They store four times as much carbon as a tropical rainforest. Offset Earth has their own designated land, to the north-west of the island, near Marataola. Here they are planting in an area of 1,354 hectares (about 180km2).
